What is dot-and-dab dry lining?

Dot-and-dab is the most common drylining method for solid masonry walls in Maidstone. Plasterboard is fixed to the wall using dabs of drywall adhesive applied in a regular pattern, leaving a 10-25mm cavity between the board and the wall.

That cavity is what makes dot-and-dab so popular in Victorian terraces in Maidstone central, Bearsted, Loose and Staplehurst: it can carry electrical cables, switch drops, plumbing pipes, and a layer of insulation, all without chasing the brickwork. It is faster, cleaner, and more thermally efficient than traditional wet plastering.

Limitations: the existing wall must be sound, dry, and reasonably flat. We do not dot-and-dab onto damp walls, painted surfaces, or unstable renders without prior treatment. For severely uneven walls, independent metal stud is the more reliable approach.
